Your Welfare & UK Insurance

We want you to enjoy your time at UWS and your UK experience as a whole. This section of the module focuses on your personal welfare while you are in the UK. We also look at what you can do to ensure you are covered for all eventualities.

your health

Your health is very important and can understandably be affected by the move to a new country. You can be experiencing new food, new climate, as well as all the stresses of starting a new course. Let us look step by step at all aspects of the UK health system and how your needs fit within this. Simply click on the icons below to be taken to the relevant guidance as provided by UKCISA.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE
Picture
Please do read the relevant sections very carefully as many people coming to the UK do need additional health care and insurance on top of what is offered by the NHS. No one likes to think anything will go wrong but things can and do, often unexpectedly. For further information, if you do require health insurance check out Money Saving Experts' guide.

Another point to note is that the water in the UK is absolutely fine to drink. Most people drink from the tap in their home and doing this can help you to stay healthy as well as also saving ££s on bottled waters. See UKCISA for further information.

your belongings

As with all financial products in the UK there will be many companies competing for your business. Much like choosing a bank account, be sure that you understand what is on offer and that this meets all of your needs. For support to choose insurance; trusted sources of information are Money Saving Expert's insurance guides, Save the Student's insurance guides and Money Helper Service's insurance guides.

your travels

As part of your UK experience, you may wish to travel. Many people don't consider that something bad could happen but it is so important to plan for the unexpected. As we said earlier; you will be in the UK without your usual support networks. If something unanticipated did happen; travel insurance can be a lifeline. It could be something minor like lost luggage but this can turn out to be a big headache and very stressful. Travel insurance is also important for any trips home or your initial journey to the UK. Insurance is something you need to investigate and understand before you part with any funds. Our trusted sources to help you would again be The Money Helper Service; Money Saving Expert and Save the Student. These not only explain the concept of the insurance but also what to look for.
